Questions and Answers
Q: Why is a one day tournament cheaper?
A: We do not schedule games on Fridays, therefore, athletes are not necessarily required to take Friday off work or use a vacation day.
Q: Are there other reasons a one day tournament is cheaper?
A: Yes, in addition to the possible lost wages (as per above), a great number of teams may not require hotels or purchase meals on the Friday.
Q: Why are there six teams in one division, that not normal, is it?
A: It's true that you don't often see six teams in one loop unless it's provincials. The format for a 6 team - 3 game loop is an approved format by Ringette Ontario's Game and Tournament committee. We prefer to use this format as it allow us to offer everyone their three games and keep the costs to the players as low as possible. After-all it's cheaper to have six teams share the costs for the finals than just four teams.

Q: Because there are six teams in our loop, will there be semi-finals?
A: Round Robin games, Finals, Semi-Finals, Awards and Slush Ice all contribute to the cost of a tournament, because our focus is on you and keeping the registration fees low, we have chosen not to have Semi-Finals and pass on the savings to the teams and their players.

Q: Three games in one day, isn't that too much?
A: Ringette Ontario does allow for three games in a single day, they suggest that a minimum of 3 hrs of rest between games is required for the body to properly recover between games. We provide 3 hrs of rest between games and in some cases we provide more than the minimum.
Q: My team has only 8 skaters and a goalie, can I bring 12 skaters?
A: Right now this depends on your Team Registration Form (TRF) size, Ringette Ontario rules state that, "you cannot exceed your roster". We are bringing a proposal to both the Adult committee as well as Games & Tournaments that will allow teams the ability (with appropriate approvals) to increase their roster size to a maximum of 12 skaters and a goalie for 18+ teams or 13 skaters and a goalie for 35+ teams for any 'one day - 3 game' tournaments. This is somewhat like it's done for teams who go to compete in the Canadian Championships. We do understand that as our athletes get older, playing 3 games in one day can be challenging, allowing for the TRF size to be increased for the one day events will have a positive effect on reducingfatigue and injuries and putting all team on a competive level playing field while reducinf the overall per player costs (more players sharing the entry fees).
Q: Why are the AA teams only playing 15 minute periods?
A: Our goal has been to make the tournament as affordable as possible. The twenty minute periods require the use of 75 minutes of ice per game, the extra ice required, along with the ice not used translates to increases to the costs to the AA teams. We believe that the adult players are often limited on their funds, and for that reason alone we chose 15 minute periods and to keep our prices low. This also helps with the 15 minute - 3 games in one day fatigue issues.
Q: You seem to attract some of the best officials in Ringette, How?
A: The truth is, we don't really know..., is it because we pay them more than any other tournament? we feed them lunch and provide snacks? the athletes treat them with respect both on and off the ice? they don't need to stay overnight?  like I said we just don't really know..., but whatever it is, it seems to be working.
Q: Why would you run a tournament without any planned profits?
A: For years we have found that associations are focused on the minor age groups and use tournaments as a form of fundraising. We agree with them on how important this is and support them on their efforts. We also understand how difficult it is to balance home, work and ringette and often money doesn't stretch as far as it should. That is why we will remain focused on only the adult tournament and run it as a 'not-4-profit' event.
Q: What rules are you following for the breaking of ties?
A: We follow the rules outlined in the Ringette Ontario manuals.
Q: There is no 'slush ice' in your schedule, how do the games remain on time?
A: Planning - We do have 'slush ice', but at the end of the day, just in case things go wrong. We take an aggressive approach throughout the day to keep the games on time. Having our time/score keepers constantly advise the teams that games will start up to 10 minutes early, having officials fill out game sheets off the ice, having the Zamboni ready at the door when a game ends, and knowing that certain adults games will likely end early and schedule them back-to-back with the games that might run long, are some of the ways we plan to stay on time.
Q: What's next, are you working on other items that adults could benefit from?
A: The landscape of entertainment in Durham Region is about to change with the construction of the Pickering Casino Resort , just less than 5 minutes from our arena and situated on the boarder of Ajax and Pickering. we are currently exploring the feasibility of entering into a relationship with the resort that will be focused on the adult athletes and their families. Along with lower hotel rates, we hope to secure other benefits to pass on to our adult players.
